STUDENTS' UNION GOVT.
FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY OWERRI

Great Nigerian Students!!

It's a pleasure addressing you all here again on this platform. One interesting thing about the over 30,000 FUTO students is that you can reach us all within five minutes on Social Media; so any day we decide to close down FUTO, it won't take us more than ten minutes.
          "Smiles"

Of the greatest Futoites, permit me to use this ample opportunity to fundamentally welcome you all to the new semester. In FUTO here we call it "rain semester" while other schools call it "second semester". One reason why it's FUTO as a university, and then others.....
       " smiles "

Overtime, the rain semester has been regarded as a short semester and this is as a result of extra curriculum activities that comes with it. e.g, students and politics, Post UTME exams, management engagement with functions within and outside campus e.t.c. For we the students, the aforementioned cases will not minimize your exam questions. In that regards, we urge you to remain focused and read vehemently, so to attain a good level of academic Excellence.

Before I proceed, on behalf of the great Students of FUTO, I would like to appreciate our Amiable Vice Chancellor, the Digitalized Vice Chancellor of the only Federal University of Technology in the whole of southeast and south-south, Prof. C.C Asiabaka whom his Quest for Excellence has transform FUTO today.... We now have a "New FUTO". Daddy I want to thank you specially because if not for your kind of person, the 2015/2016 SUG led by Comr Ezenwa Obinna, wouldn't have achieve what we have today. All our achievements today was based on the fact that you are students loving. You prioritize and take serious  issues concerning students more than that of the principal officers and the ten governing council. Daddy we love you.

Greatest Nigerian Students, last semester was indeed a wonderful one, though it was hectic and strenuous due to academic challenges, but in all, we appreciate the almighty God for his goodness and mercy. As we resume today for a new semester, the 2015/2016 ALUTA REUNION executive led by Comr. Ezenwa Obinna, pray that God grant you journey mercy as we wait to receive you all. Amen.

Greatest Nigerian students, The 2015/2016 students' union government FUTO wish to also use this medium to state categorically our achievements so far in the last semester.

We believe that the most effective leadership is by example, not edict. Nearly 90% of how people learn is visual. It's what they see. Another 9% of our learning is verbal, or what we hear. About 1% is through our other sense. This alone explains why effective leadership is more caught than taught. People need to see a sermon, more than hear it, to really embrace it. A leader's credibility and his right to be followed are based on his actions/life, as much as his lip.

Below are our achievements last semester....

#PRODUCTIVITY: (1)Procurement of 800KVA generator set which is in full working now; This seemed impossible at first, having in mind that about three sets of SUG pushed for this and it  failed but with dialogue and much pressure from the executive we achieved it...
(2)We attracted the installation of three 800KVA transformers to enable NEPA light in our various hostels. We didn't stop with the Gen-Set. We saw need for NEPA light so the students can have steady water, charge their Phones and laptops during the day, so we push for it and today,
light shines not only in the night but also during the day.
(3)Establishments of a cyber cafe and SUG computer training center; this solves Computer illiteracy. You locate this at SUG resource center Hall2.
(4)Reduction of school fees. Between November and December 2015, there was a communique that was issued out over the increment of school fees. The communique has it that the tuition fee was increased by almost 100%... I could remember students agitating, crying out loud. But when we met with the management, we gave them reasons our fees should not be increased instead it should be reduced... Thanks to our Vice Chancellor, Prof. C.C Asiabaka.... after much dialogue, the increment was reversed and then fees reduced by #1000. This has never happened in the history of FUTO.
(5)We organized the best SUG week ever in FUTO which saw the first FUTO carnival/cultural day, queen of fresher's pageantry. The mind blowing Mr and Mrs SUG, Acaprenuer which is an entreprenuership summit that kindled the entrepreneurship spirit in students.
(6)We have ensure the clearing of grasses around our hostels: we have also made the fumigation of the hostels possible.
(7)We have also introduce monthly sanitation in the campus as this will help keep FUTO clean.
(8)The Union project is ongoing now... Total rehabilitation of Asiabaka square which will serve as recreation center where students activities will be held.

#PEACE: (1)The union, through dialogue with the management, stopped a protest during an increased School fees Saga, which led to the reduction in school fees.
(2)Through constant communication both on social media, and in the hostels, the union was able to prevent a protest during a two weeks electrical outage.
(3)Good working relationship exists between the student's securities and the vigilantes of host community to combat insurgencies.
(4)Love, peace and unity exists among the Union and students.

This among many we were able to achieve due to the support Nigerian students gave to us. We appreciate you all and we promise you, that this semester will have many more to reckon. Keep supporting the SUG. Without you there is no us. Please feel free to come to us anytime any day we are at your service. We love you all. Once again, welcome to the new semester.
